BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis: Half-centuries from Azhar Ali and Umar Akmal helped Pakistan get better from a shaky start in the second Test next to West Indies on Friday before deprived climate prompted an early close.

Famous speed bowler Wasim Akram on Saturday joined the rising list of former Pakistani players criticising the taking away of Shahid Afridi as ODI skipper, saying the result defied logic.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) discarded the the flamboyant Afridi as Pakistan’s ODI captain following reports of a tussle with coach Waqar Younis became civic.


“Arguments flanked by captains and coaches are not new-fangled in Pakistan cricket. Afridi was hailed as a national hero after the World Cup, and came reverse from the West Indies after winning the ODI sequence only to find out he has been sacked. What is the PCB upto?” Akram told ‘Mobile ESPN’


Akram also thought the result to appoint 36-year-old Misbah-ul-Haq as Afridi’s substitute was “at best a stop-
gap arrangement.”


“The present Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq is on the mistaken side of 30 and I don’t see him leading the side beyond 6 to 8 months”, said Akram.
“It is a wrong footstep taken by PCB, and only (chairman) Ijaz Butt is to be blamed for this,” he extra.

Pakistan will have fun India


KARACHI: Pakistan will have fun India in three open matches in the combined Kingdom in July depending on government clearance, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) confirmed.


PFF promotion director Sardar Naveed thought an accord had been reached with the All India Football alliance and the dates for the three-match series are the majority probably 6-18 July.


The series against India was planned after the tour to Palestine was postponed indefinitely due to visa issues. Pakistan was supposed to play the go back prop of the bi-lateral succession in Palestine following Palestine had played in Pakistan earlier in the year.


“The series beside India will go ahead once their federation gets the clearance from their administration,” Naveed said while talking to NDTV.

The proposed cities anywhere the matches are most probable to be played are London, Manchester and Birmingham. Naveed said TouchSky Sports was helping the PFF fund this series, which will give the players some much needed international contact.


Naveed said the future three-match series alongside India will serve as good practice for Pakistan’s World Cup qualifiers. Pakistan will be up against Lebanon if they make it to the second round after playing Bangladesh in the first encircling.


Pakistan will play their initial round World Cup qualifier in Dhaka on June 29 while their second qualifier will be in Lahore on July 3.


The squad is also scheduled to play two practice matches with the national teams of Dubai and Qatar after which they plan to go to the United Kingdom.
